Alexandra Klimas
Nationality Dutch, Born 1970
Lives and works in the Netherlands.

PROFESSION
Since 2008, she has worked exclusively as a visual artist, specializing in oil painting.

EDUCATION
Alexandra Klimas is self-taught. She has developed her technical refinement and distinctive style through intensive observation of nature and a profound fascination with animals, their character, behavior, and emotional life.

Animals – Emotion & Connection (from 2025)

Wild Animals and Children (earlier work until 2007) – A series in which the vulnerability and need for protection of both children and animals is central. The works depict interactions between humans and wild animals such as wolves, lions, and tigers, emphasizing shared vulnerability and the importance of care and conservation. (Not available online)

Farm Animals (2008–present) – Klimas began this series when she realized that animals close to home, often used for consumption, deserve extra attention. The work focuses primarily on portraits of these animals, supplemented by compositions placing them in misty or empty backgrounds. The aim is to raise awareness that these are living beings with unique personalities, deserving of proper welfare. Klimas hopes the works foster greater empathy for these animals when viewers see them up close.

Clouds Series with Farm Animals (2020–present) – Under monumental cloudscapes, farm animals appear as small figures within a grand space. The scale emphasizes both the sense of smallness and a connection with nature, highlighting that both animals and humans need space to live, breathe, and thrive.

Still Lifes with Birds (2023–present) – This series invites reflection on birds, their vulnerability and beauty, and the changes in their environment due to habitat loss. At the same time, the works offer moments of attention in the garden, where birds accompany you and encourage contemplation of their world.

Animals – Feeling & Connection (from 2025) – Animals are placed in large, empty spaces with minimal elements. Their feelings are central, from care and connection to loneliness and sadness. The viewer is invited to connect with the animals and experience recognition and empathy.
